Qatar shameful world cup

There are conflicts, like Ukraine, Syria or Iraq, which inevitably lead to death of people. And there is also the organization of the world cup by Qatar, which kills a lot of men as well, but silently.

Every week there is a new polemic about the organization of the World Cup by Qatar. Between corruption, abuses and modern slavery, we can easily assert that this event (but also the attribution of it) is one of the biggest shame of this beginning of century. I would like to list all the wrong things linked to this precise event.

First of all, and that's a bit depressing, I can only take stock of the things we've heard of. We unfortunately can't be sure that a new controversy will not burst in a few days (honestly it wouldn't surprise me at all).

So the first scandal is obviously the choice of Qatar itself. What a shame ! FIFA promotes says it promotes values of respect and tolerance. Is a country where women have to wear the burqa is a tolerant country ? Is a country were homosexuality is illegala tolerant country ? Is a country where Asian workers have to give their passport to a 'master' is a tolerant country ? And even if Qatar respected all of it, is it a football country ? It's 40 degrees during the summer, is it bearable for football players ? Isn't a shame that the country has to spend billion 200 billion dollars to build infrastructures which will be useless after the event ? 200 billion dollars ! What a shame really, here is what happens when a corrupted organization like the FIFA meets a corrupted and ambitious country.

This issue calls the governance of football into question. No one will have any confidence in a Fifa investigation run by Sepp Blatter.

I think it's not longer defamation to say FIFA is corrupted. Enough proofs have been brought to assert it. See this very good article here. By giving the world cup to Qatar it's also responsible of what's happening.

The other and the worst controversy is obviously related to modern slavery on the construction site. That's quite cynical isn't ? Qatar is ready to spend 200 billion dollars for the event but it's not able to pay decently people who build its stadiums. Maybe because the the world cup will be seen by billion of people, whereas the construction only interests a few NGOs...

Last February we learnt that at least 400 Nepalese construction workers have died since Qatar won the bid to host the 2022 tournament. One month later another news announced that 1200 where actually dead ! How many more until 2022 ? Is it normal that nobody's condemned or even threat because of what's happening ??

The world cup is in 8 years, but it's also marked by the seal of shame, the one of modern slavery.
